The National Folk Museum of Korea is located inside GyeongbokPalace.
The building’s design is based on various historical buildings around Korea.
The museum illustrates the history from the start of prehistoric times to the
end of the Joseon Dynasty. 
And you can also learn about the lifestyle of the Korean people here.

* Life of Koreans

◈  Geumjul

 When a baby was born, a straw rope (geumjul) was hung over the gate.
People hung the straw rope to protect the house from evil spirits and to warn people
not to enter the house.
If a baby boy was born, charcoal and red peppers were fastened to the straw rope.
If a baby girl was born, charcoal and pine branches were fastened.

◈  First birthday

 On the first birthday, the child is seated before a table of various things.
If the child picks up a book, it is believed that he or she will be a scholar.
If the child picks up rice or money, it is believed that he or she will be rich.
If the child picks up thread, it is believed that he or she will live long.

◈  Education

In Joseon dynasty, they tried to make more moral society by educating
Confucian ethics. Boys learned ‘the Thousand-Character classic’ and
‘Dongmongsunseup’ which were education
books for children in Seodang (village school) and studied scriptures of Confucianism
and history books to prepare for Gawgeo.
