⊙ What kind of place is Cheonggyecheon stream?

The original name of Cheonggyecheon stream was ‘Gaecheon’. This stream flows to the East gathering together water from Mt Bukaksan, Mt Inwangsan and Mt Namsan and then to Han River after becoming one with Jooryangcheon stream at Salgoji Bridge, outside of Wangshiri.
Cheonggyecheon stream was a natural river in early Joseon Dynasty, if  flooded it was full of dirt because of wastewater. The 3rd King Taejong started a size-work with an open channel construction. Then, King Yeongjo carried out the real stream work. This work made the flow of Cheonggyecheon stream straight.
This work was continued during the era of King Sunjo and King Gojong. There were 24 bridges like Supyo Bridge, Ogansu Bridge, Kwang Bridge, Yeongmi Bridge, Gawnsu Bridge, etc along the stream. The name was changed to Cheonggyecheon stream during the Japanese colonial era after losing the sovereignty of the nation. The length of Cheonggyecheon stream is 10.84 km.
