Big Bang member T.O.P's marijuana scandal broke out just a week ago on June 1st. Three days later he released a hand-written letter to express his regret and apologies. Then on June 6th, things took a turn for the worse. T.O.P was discovered to have overdosed on sedatives at his home. He was immediately taken to the ICU and has not regained consciousness since. The police reported that evening that the idol's conditions are not as serious as rumored and that he had walked into the hospital on his own. They further said that he would wake up in a day or two and that the overdose would not affect his health. However, yesterday morning (June 7th) T.O.P's mother was interviewed by Korean media and revealed in a teary state that her son is still in the ICU and does not understand why the police gave that statement.
There is obviously a big discrepancy in the two parties' statements. T.O.P's attending doctor conducted a press conference at 4pm yesterday to discuss his conditions. The hospital revealed that the actor-singer was carried into the hospital at 12:34pm on June 6th (Korean time), with two people supporting his upper body and one person holding his legs. His blood level increased at a high speed, and his pulse and breathing were unstable. In summary, his conditions were not optimistic.
The attending doctor stated, "We believe T.O.P. took anti-depressive medication. His body is only reacting to very strong stimuli and he is in an unconscious state. His breathing is erratic and needs to be under observance. His pupils are not reacting normally due to the drug's side effects. As soon as his conditions improve we will consult with a psychiatrist. The carbon dioxide level in his blood is still too high, which might lead to a cardiac arrest. Our diagnosis is that he will need at least a week to recover. When he does, the important thing for him to do is to undergo psychiatric treatment. Furthermore, we did not find any trace of additional drug use."
The hospital conducted further examinations at 11am and 3pm (Korean time) and found that T.O.P needed invasive procedures. He was immediately hooked on to a ventilator and transferred to the ICU. Some reports pointed out that he had taken sedatives, but right now it is known that he took prescriptive anti-depressive medication that might contain hypnotics. However, the exact drug and amount will have to be confirmed after he awakes.
