On 18 February 2017, GOT7 finally returned to Indonesia after 2 long years, bringing along with them ‘Flight Log: Turbulence in Jakarta’. Prior to the much-anticipated fan meeting, the group met up with local and international media outlets at a closed press conference to share their thoughts.
During the Press Conference, GOT7 announced their impending March comeback titled ‘Flight Log: Arrival’. Although maintaining top secrecy about their comeback, upon Jackson’s persuasion to give a mini spoiler, Yugyeom briefly demonstrated a body wave move hinting at their new choreography.
When asked about songs they listen to regularly, the members unanimously answered their own tracks with Bam Bam listing ‘Prove It’ as their current jam before sleeping while Jackson preferred ‘Mayday’.
Despite topping charts and being one of the hottest boy groups in town, GOT7’s goal is to work hard towards more awards and more importantly to stay together as a group, in Bam Bam’s words “perform for a long long time, 10, 20 years”.
The fan meeting took place at The Kasablanka Hall, at 6:30PM, kicking off with their new tracks from ‘Flight Log: Turbulence'. GOT7 performed ‘Let Me’ and ‘Prove it’, unique choices to open the fanmeet as they are slow R&B numbers yet did not fail to get their fans, also known as ‘Ahgases’, waving lightsticks excitedly to the beat.
The fan meeting continued with introductions and greeting their hyped-up fans. The 7 charming members - JB, Jinyoung, Jackson, Youngjae, BamBam, Mark and Yugyeom – appeared to be having a mini competition amongst themselves as they tried their best to win the hearts (and cheers) of their fans.
Equipped with their newly-learnt Bahasa Indonesia, the members had the audience swooning. BamBam “Kalian unyu banget” (trans: all of you are so cute) while JB praised his female fans “Kalian cantik sekali” (trans: all of you are really pretty). The ever ambitious Jackson who never fails to create laughter topped everyone else with his compliment “Kaulah segalanya” (trans: you are my everything).
A highlight of the night was the Q&A segment where the members read post-it notes written by fans. Requests were fulfilled and the audience were treated to bromance action as Mark and Youngjae played the pepero game. Cheerful laughter was heard when BamBam, the king of trends, said the viral catch phrase “Om Telolet Om”, showing just how well-informed he is. GOT7 then put on their swag and performed to hip-hop track ‘Boomx3’ and dance track ‘Skyway’, getting everyone grooving along.
What’s a fanmeet without fun interactive games? GOT7 picked 7 lucky fans to play mini basketball with them on stage. The opportunity was perfect for skinship moments such as holding hands. Jackson, who won the game with 9 points, enthusiastically referred to themselves as “Fatison”, merging their two names together to form a team identity.
To express their heart-felt feelings and reciprocate GOT7’s love, a fan-made video was shown followed by a choral singing of ‘Confession’ by Ahgases in the audience. The touching moment was certainly a highlight of the event and proved the tight relationship between idols and their fans. The fan meeting closed on a high note, with crowd favourites ‘Hard Carry’ and ‘Home Run’.
For those who were unable to attend the fan meeting, JB assured that “this will not be the last time (that GOT7 will be in Jakarta)…and there will be another chance to meet again”. With a final farewell, GOT7 certainly shook their fans’ hearts in a turbulence of happiness.
