Having enjoyed multiple chart-topping songs and immense success in South Korea, popular girl group GFRIEND finally sets foot on sunny island Singapore for their first ever L.O.L. Showcase on Saturday, 3 September 2016. Held at the Megabox Convention Centre, the six members (Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB and Umji) effortlessly charmed their way into the audience’s hearts with an exciting line-up of their hit songs and interactive talk segments.

Dressed in matching pink tops and checkered schoolgirl skirts, the girls dazzled the audience with the lively choreography of their debut tracks, 'Glass Bead' and 'Luv Star'. After a simple introduction in a mix of English and Korean, the girls had a talk session where they shared their thoughts and feelings about their idol journey. Umji, the youngest member, expressed that they are eternally grateful to their fans (Buddy/Buddies) for their first music show win in 2016. This sentiment was also shared by the other members as they frequently referred to Buddies as their source of support and happiness during their journey as GFRIEND.

Leader Sowon reveals that it was a new experience receiving birthday messages from fans and feels thankful. She adds that their Buddies’ love is a source of energy for them while SinB agrees that Buddies are like their endorphins. Umji sums up that their fans are always important to them and that despite the constant challenge of a new comeback, they look forward to preparing something new and special for their fans. As they say, actions speak louder than words. GFRIEND did so through a display of aegyo, ranging from finger hearts to flying kisses, earning cheers from fanboys and fangirls in the audience.

Having earned the title of ‘Queens of 2x Speed’ on a Korean variety show, the girls were asked to perform a snippet for their fans in Singapore. They sportingly agreed and gave a perfectly synchronised performance of 'Rough', at two times the original speed, impressing the audience. In addition to being known for their innocent yet powerful dance concept, GFRIEND is also famous for having excellent vocalists. Lead vocalist Eunha who had previously appeared on King of Masked Singer, a Korean singing battle programme where she had received much praise for her voice colour, showcased her sweet and delicate vocals by singing several verses from the song she had previously performed on the singing show.

The rest of the showcase was filled with performances of their chart-topping hit songs like 'Rough', 'Me Gustas Tu' and not forgetting their latest track 'Navillera' which earned them multiple wins on various music shows in Korea. Not only did GFRIEND display their knife-like dance moves in difficult choreography, the six members also slayed the performances with their sweet and melodious voices, captivating fans and non-fans alike. It was definitely a sight to watch as the group’s main vocalist, Yuju, effortlessly hits all the high notes and adlibs in their songs while dancing.

GFRIEND also expressed their joy to have been able to perform other songs from their albums during the Singapore showcase as they did not have many opportunities to do so when they were promoting back in Korea. Their ballad track 'Mermaid' indeed showcased the singing abilities of each member while 'Gone with the Wind' blew away the audience with its intricate choreography and amazing dance break.

Before taking their leave, the lovely sextuplet thanked their fans once again for the support and loud cheers. Yerin, in particular, expressed how happy she felt to finally be able to meet Buddies in Singapore and hopes that they would be able to meet their dedicated Buddies more often in future. The showcase closed with an encore performance of 'Sunshine', where the girls sang while handing out chocolates to their cheering fans who held fan-made banners. It was truly a fun and enjoyable date for both GFRIEND and their fans.
